Description

soybean seeds or soy beans

East Africa is home to the soybean, sometimes known as the soy bean (Glycine max). Widely cultivated for its edible bean, which has many applications, fat-free (defatted) soybean meal is an important and affordable source of protein for animal feeds and many packaged meals. The UN Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) does not consider the plant a pulse, but rather an oilseed.

One type of legume is soybeans. Because of their high oil and protein content, they are a very valuable crop for human consumption and animal feed. Actually, 48 pounds of soybean protein meal and 11 pounds of soybean oil are produced for every 60-pound bushel of soybeans. The crop also helps to replenish the nitrogen in the soil.
